England Stutter to Disappointing Draw Against Slovenia

Scratchy Touches and Fatigue Mar Performance

Promising Play in Final Third Earns First Corner

England stuttered to a disappointing 0-0 draw against Slovenia in their opening match of Euro 2024. Despite promising play in the final third, poor touches and fatigue in the second half ultimately cost the Three Lions the victory.

Phil Foden was lively in the early stages and created a chance for Harry Kane, but the Tottenham striker's shot flashed just wide. England continued to press, but their play became increasingly scrappy as the half wore on.

Jude Bellingham, who was making his first competitive start for England, showed signs of fatigue in the second half and gave away possession cheaply on several occasions. Slovenia, who had been largely ineffective in the first half, grew in confidence and created a few chances of their own.

England manager Gareth Southgate made a number of changes in the second half, but they failed to spark life into his underperforming side. The match ended in a frustrating draw, leaving England with work to do in their remaining two group games.
